Much of North Carolina may experience heavy rain and storms over the next few days. Slow moving storms may bring strong winds and heavy rain and may cause flooding in some areas.

Floods are very dangerous and can be deadly. Fortunately, many of these deaths can be prevented. Please be aware and follow flood safety guidelines.

• Never walk, swim or drive though floodwater. Floodwater can easily knock you over or carry a vehicle away. Floodwaters also conceal hidden dangers such as debris or even a completely washed out roadway. Always comply with road closure and other caution signage. Turn around - Don't Drown.
• Water may rise quickly. Stay away from floodwaters and avoid flood-prone areas. Move to higher ground before flooding occurs in these areas.
• Floodwater may be contaminated with sewage or even chemicals that can make you sick. Avoid contact with floodwater.

• Always stay alert and follow instructions from local emergency officials.
