Free Well Water Testing Kits Available by Request

— Written By

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NC DHHS) is offering free well water test kits to citizens that suspect their well has been flooded or otherwise contaminated with bacteria as a result of Hurricane Florence.

To obtain a kit, homeowners must contact the local health department to make a request. (a list of contacts is located here:  Environmental Health Staff by County (PDF, 1.6 MB))

This request to the local health department will be routed through the local Emergency Operations Center to NC DHHS.

The kits will be delivered to the local health department, and their environmental health specialists will be responsible for collecting the samples from the homes and delivering them to the state laboratory for analysis.

Results will be provided to the local health department and homeowner. If the well is contaminated, then the homeowner will also be informed of a course of action.

If you know of homeowners that have flooded wells, encourage them to make their requests as soon as possible.
